Dear distinguished guests and colleagues,

On behalf of the steering and organizing committees, I extend our warmest welcome to the 5th Asia Pacific Nutrigenomics Nutrigenetics Organisation (APNNO) Biennial Conference and the 14th Asia Pacific Conference on Clinical Nutrition (APCCN). This joint event, themed “Dietary Diversity and Personalized Nutrition: From Basic Research to Clinical Practice,” aims to convene experts, scientists, students, clinicians, and practitioners in precision nutrition from across the Asia-Pacific region. APNNO, initiated in 2014 during the 8th nutrigenomics conference in Gold Coast, and APCCN, established in 1992 in Singapore by Asia Pacific Clinical Nutrition Society (APCNS), have both played pivotal roles in fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange in the fields of nutrigenomics, nutrigenetics, and clinical nutrition.

We have curated a comprehensive program covering diverse topics including personalized nutrition, genomics, advanced nutritional assessment for precision medicine, planetary diet, cardio-metabolic disease prevention, micronutrients, sports nutrition, obesity management, nutrition-microbiome interactions, nutriepigenomics, maternal nutrition, pediatric nutrition, vegetarianism, healthy aging, child malnutrition prevention, nutrition against infectious diseases, nutrigenomics in clinical practice, probiotics and prebiotics, AI in nutrition, cancer nutrition, food technology trends, and local wisdom-based food security. We enthusiastically welcome participants from Indonesia and abroad, inviting colleagues from universities, research institutions, and hospitals to share their invaluable experiences.

Bali, Indonesia, with its captivating cultural heritage and picturesque landscapes, serves as an ideal backdrop for this gathering. We hope that amidst its beauty, fruitful networking and collaborative opportunities will flourish.

Dear Ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning, Om Swastiastu and welcome to the 5th Asia Pacific Nutrigenomic Nutrigenetic Conference, taking place in the multicultural city of Denpasar from December 6th to 8th, 2024. Today, we gather here amidst the beauty of Bali to explore the fascinating realms of nutrition science and its impact on human health.

The field of nutrition and nutritional care has increasingly captivated scientific interest, providing crucial support in addressing metabolic issues. Nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics, in particular, have emerged as promising fields in addressing health concerns. However, the diverse Asia-Pacific region presents unique challenges due to its rich cultural heritage and genetic variations, highlighting the need for collaboration among researchers and health professionals. This conference serves as a platform to address these challenges and drive progress in the field of precision nutrition.

The combination of the 5th APNNO Biennial Conference and the 14th APCCN highlights the need to connect basic and clinical sciences. This brings together experts, scientists, students, clinicians, and practitioners from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss the latest advancements in precision nutrition. Against the backdrop of Bali, the conference will focus on the theme of “Dietary Diversity and Personalized Nutrition: from Basic Research to Clinical Practice.” This theme underscores the importance of applying research findings to improve public health.

Now, more than ever, is the opportune moment to enhance research coordination and partnerships in the Asia-Pacific Region. By maximizing advanced networking, innovation, and advanced technologies, we can seamlessly integrate knowledge into public health services, thus advancing research in nutrigenomics, nutrigenetics, and clinical nutrition.

This conference aims to promote collaboration, disseminate knowledge, and facilitate discussions among academics, researchers, clinicians, medical practitioners, professionals, policymakers, industrial stakeholders, and international and regional industry partners specializing in Nutrigenomics and Nutrigenetics.

I also extend my sincere gratitude to the esteemed members of the organizing committee, including the Faculty of Medicine Udayana University, Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital, the Indonesian Nutrigenomic Nutrigenetic Association, and the Genome Diversity and Disease Division – Mochtar Riady Institute for Nanotechnology, for their invaluable contributions in making this conference a reality.

In conclusion, with the convening of this conference, I hope that all attendees will be facilitated to engage in discussions and exchange knowledge to advance the quality of nutrigenomics, nutrigenetics and clinical nutrition for the increasingly improved global health.

ABOUT

The science of nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics is important because of its great potential to improve health at the individual, genetic-subgroup and population level. The application of this science in the diverse Asia-Pacific region needs to be improved and expanded. The great cultural and genetic diversity in the Asia-Pacific region makes the task of improving knowledge in these fields challenging. There is therefore a need to bring together researchers and health professionals into a collaborative framework to foster this novel field of science and develop proper tools for its translation into practice.

Nowadays, the boundaries between basic and clinical science are increasingly narrow. At this time, combining the 5th Biennial Conference of the Asia-Pacific Nutrigenomics Nutrigenetics Organization (APNNO) 2024 and the 14th Asia Pacific Conference on Clinical Nutrition (APCCN) of the Asia Pacific Clinical Nutrition Society (APCNS) 2024 is very timely. The integration will brought together outstanding collections of experts, scientists, students, clinicians, and other practitioners across the region; all of whom involved or interested in the study related to precision nutrition in the Asia-Pacific region.

HISTORY

APNNO was initiated during the eighth nutrigenomics conference in the Asia-Pacific region held in 2014 in Gold Coast. Since then, biennial APNNO conference has been held in Gyeongju (2016), Tokyo (2018), Qingdao (2020, virtual), and Taipei (2022). Past APCCN has been held in Makassar (6th, 2009), and since then it was held in Bangkok (7th, 2011), Tokyo (8th, 2013), Kuala Lumpur (9th, 2015), Adelaide (10th, 2017), Nanjing (11th, 2019), Dubai (12th, 2020, virtual), and Qingdao (13th, 2022, virtual).

In 2024 Indonesia will host the biennial APNNO for the first time, and the APCCN for the second time, after 15 years (the first time was in Makassar in 2009). The 5th APNNO biennial conference/14th APCCN will be held in Bali on 6-8 December 2024. The theme of the conference is “Dietary diversity and personalized nutrition: from basic research to clinical practice”.

By utilising regional networking, innovation, and available advance technologies that rapidly evolve, it is time to have a more tightly knitted research coordination and partnerships in the Asia pacific Region, and working together on the integration of the knowledge into public health services.

This conference aim to facilitate discussions across various fields related to nutrigenomics, nutrigenetics and clinical nutrition that may support population health, with special emphasis on the Asia Pacific.
